ConsumerLab.com, LLC (“CL”) is the leading U.S. provider of independent test results and information to help consumers and healthcare professionals identify the best quality health and nutrition products. It publishes results of its tests in comprehensive reports at www.consumerlab.com. CL also conducts an annual Survey of Vitamin & Supplement Users.
ConsumerLab.com has perhaps the highest testing standards of any third party group certifying the quality of dietary supplements. ConsumerLab.com is also the only third-party verification group that freely publishes its testing methods and quality criteria/standards.
Since its founding in 1999, CL has tested more than 5,600 products, representing over 850 different brands and nearly every type of popular supplement for adults, children, and pets.
ConsumerLab posted its 2026 brand rankings on February 25, 2026, based on more than 8,850 survey responses collected in November and December 2025. The comparable recent releases for 2026, 2025, and 2024 provide a clean three-year trendline for the categories most readers are likely to compare year to year.

Mountain Rose Herbs began in 1987 and is an independently owned company based in Eugene, Oregon. The company is best known for organic herbs, teas, tinctures, capsules, spices, and essential oils, and it puts a strong emphasis on ethical sourcing and sustainability. Mountain Rose Herbs says it uses an onsite lab to test botanicals for identity and contaminants, while prioritizing certified organic or sustainably harvested plant materials.

Kirkland Signature is Costco’s private label. It is sold by Costco at their website and warehouses, and is trademarked by the company. Membership is required to shop at Costco. You may enjoy their relatively low price, convenience and for the fact that they sell in bulk. However, their supplements are not at the top quality level.
Two winners were especially stable across the full 2024–2026 period: Kirkland (Costco) held the discount/warehouse slot every year, and Nature Made held the broad food/drug/mass slot every year.
Survey coverage behind each annual release
Year | Survey responses | Brands rated | Merchants rated |
2023 | 8,600 | 152 | 37 |
2024 | 10,000+ | 186 | 39 |
2025 | 8,400+ | 170 | 35 |
2026 | 8,850+ | 188 | 35 |
The consistency of the methodology is helpful, but the audience is still a specific one: ConsumerLab surveys its own newsletter subscribers, many of whom are frequent supplement users. In other words, these rankings are best understood as satisfaction scores from highly engaged supplement shoppers rather than a random sample of all U.S. consumers.

What changed most from year to year
The most turnover happened in the catalog/internet and practitioner segments. Andrew Lessman (ProCaps) led catalog/internet in 2023, Roots2 (Vitacost) took 2024 and 2025, and Life Extension moved into first place in 2026. The healthcare-practitioner winner also shifted noticeably: Ortho Molecular led in 2023 and 2024, Thorne Research in 2025, and Xymogen in 2026.
Other categories changed more gradually. The vitamin-store winner moved from GNC in 2023 and 2024 to Vitamin Shoppe in 2025 and 2026. The pharmacy winner moved from Walgreens in 2023 to CVS in 2024 and then stayed there. The health-food-store category rotated from Nordic Naturals to Yerba Prima and then to Mountain Rose Herbs, which repeated in 2026.
ConsumerLab’s separate popularity releases suggest why some of these brand shifts may be happening. In 2024 the fastest-growing supplements included pregnenolone, magnesium, and berberine; in 2025 biotin, potassium, and prebiotics led the gains; and in 2026 creatine posted the biggest jump while magnesium continued to rise. Broad-line brands therefore benefited from steady everyday categories, while specialist segments stayed more volatile.
Why these rankings still need a second quality check
· In October 2023, ConsumerLab reported that several fish, krill, and algal omega-3 products were rancid, with three tested omega-3 oils exceeding oxidation limits.
· In May 2024, ConsumerLab said two magnesium supplements were not approved because they appeared to contain a different form of magnesium than the one listed on the label.
· In August 2024, ConsumerLab reported that two vitamin D products it tested contained up to twice the amount of vitamin D shown on the label.
· In March 2026, ConsumerLab said 7 of the 22 multivitamins it selected for testing failed quality standards, equivalent to 32% of the products tested.
The practical takeaway is simple: use the annual brand rankings as a shortlist, then check ConsumerLab’s latest product-specific review for the exact supplement you want. A brand can perform well in the satisfaction survey and still have individual products or categories that need closer scrutiny.
